Here’s Kristen Wiig As Evil Museum-Goer Cheetah In ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’

In case you don’t have or haven’t been on Twitter today, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins posted our first look at the sequel’s baddie, Barbara Minerva, otherwise known as the villainous Cheetah.

Wonder Woman: 1984 sees Gal Gadot return to the titular role alongside an alive Steve Trevor, played by the excellent Chris Pine. The brilliant Kristen Wiig plays Minerva in this DC Universe sequel.

Minerva is an archaeologist who’ll do anything to get her paws on extremely cool artefacts and she’s also the heir to a sizeable estate and fortune in the comic books. Although, we’ll stick to just the very basics of Minerva’s character because the sequel may or may not stick to the comics.

So, the gist of her ‘Cheetah’ origins is that during a particular expedition for a lost tribe in the African jungles, Minerva kinda screws up and gains her powers in a ritual she didn’t check all the terms and conditions for first… although these powers are pretty badass and include insane speed and strength… and very sharp claws.

Jenkins posted the photo to her Twitter earlier today, simply captioned “Enter Barbara Minerva…#WW84.”

I’m going to go ahead and boldly assume Minerva’s in a natural history museum which could line-up with archaeologist-Minerva.

Narcos’ Pedro Pascal has also joined the cast although his character has yet to be announced. Fans reckon he could play a god while other rumours on ol’ Twitter reckon he’ll play Dr. Tom Leavens… an acquaintance of Cheetah’s. Speaking of exciting rumours, Lynda Carter – our telly’s Wonder Woman in the 70s is rumoured to make a cameo in the sequel.

Carter was recently honoured with her very own Hollywood star in April of this year. Jenkins attended the event and said of Carter “It’s quite incredible to become a part of the story with someone I admire as much as I do Lynda. As the years have gone on, I’ve come to admire that she carried that same spirit into her personal life as well.”

So you know, a cameo’s looking quite likely.

Wonder Woman: 1984 will begin its reign November 1, 2019.
