Because apparently content development in Hollywood is nowadays confined largely to aisles of a Walmart, we’re apparently pushing ahead with the oft-threatened Monopoly movie at long-ass last. Better still, Kevin Hart looks all but certain to star. A true Friday gift, this one.

Deadline reports that the enduring Hasbro board game that teaches young children the basic machinations of late capitalism and the value of mercilessly screwing over your friends for financial reward is set to make the leap across to the big screen after a protracted development period.
Hart’s production company HartBeat is pushing the project forward, with Ride Along director Tim Story reportedly set to helm.
A movie based on the popular board game has been in development in one form or another for at least a decade. In 2008, Ridley Scott was announced as the director for a version of the film at Universal Pictures that fell over in the early stages of production, before being halted altogether in 2012. Following that, a Lionsgate-backed version of the film working off a script from The Truman Show writer Andrew Niccol was pushed forward, but ultimately shelved not long thereafter.
This latest version seems to be the most seriously considered one, and the one that has the most legs. At least, for the time being.
There’s no word on how the board game will come to life as a standalone film, nor is there any word on plot or extended cast for that matter.
