Looks Like Keri Russell Might Be Joining The Cast Of ‘Star Wars IX’

Well here’s some interesting news – Star Wars IX is reportedly keen to cast Keri Russell in the sequel trilogy conclusion.

Per Variety’s exclusive, Russell is currently in talks to join the cast of the J.J. Abrams written and directed flick, in an “action-heavy” role that includes fight scenes.

Industry sources told Variety that Abrams and Lucasfilm had met with a bunch of actors over the past two months before deciding Russell was the right fit.

The Felicity star also has acting credits in The Americans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, August Rush, and Mission Impossible III just to name a few. Abrams actually produced the latter and was also an executive producer on 84 episodes of Felicity so there ya go.

As you can imagine, rumours are already rapidly firing across the internet as to who the 42-year-old could play. Just based off physical appearances alone, fans are guessing Russell will play Rey’s mother. If not, she could star as another excellent general… who may or may not nobly sacrifice herself. Or, Russell could side with The First Order.

The Hollywood Reporter has already written a feature, literally titled Why Keri Russell Should Play Rey’s Mother

Judging by the film’s IMDb page Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren/Ben Solo), John Boyega (Finn),and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) are expected to return to their roles. Lupita Nyong’o who plays Maz Kanata is currently rumoured to return.

At this year’s Awesome Con in Washington, DC Boyega went ahead and confirmed that Finn and Rey would be back to their cheeky antics together after their characters were separated in The Last Jedi.

“I haven’t read the script for Episode 9. But Daisy did shoot me a text saying, “Oh my gosh, I just heard from J.J. [Abrams], and we’re back together. That’s what I’m really excited about, is Finn and Rey back together again.”

Film production is expected to begin at the end of July.

Meanwhile, Mark Hamill’s been busy counting:
