During the production of Avengers: Endgame, fans were looking for behind-the-scenes spoilers that would clue us in on what’s to come.

One such spoiler was the casting of 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford as Tony Stark’s daughter. But after watching the film (pls GOD tell me you’ve seen it), you’ll have noticed that Langford was nowhere to be seen and Stark’s daughter, Morgan was instead played by a younger actress.

During a podcast interview on Josh Horowitz’s HappySadConfused, the film’s directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, confirmed that Langford had, indeed, been cast as Tony Stark’s future daughter and they even filmed the scene but it was ultimately cut from the film.

“There was an idea that we had that Tony was gonna go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes into [in Infinity War]. There was going to be a future version of [Stark’s] daughter in that way station,” says Joe.

According to the directors, Langford’s character would have provided Tony with a sense of peace at the conclusion of the battle, prior to his death.

Anthony likened the interaction between father and daughter to that Avengers: Infinity War scene where Thanos meets young Gamora after snapping half the universe out of existence.

Although Langford’s scene was shot and included in a test version of the film, the directors felt it “was too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”

Joe also admitted that viewers reacted negatively to the scene, saying, “We showed it to a test audience and it was really confusing for them. What we realised about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter.”

The brothers did not say whether fans would eventually see the meeting between Tony and his future daughter, but here’s hoping it’ll be on the DVD’s deleted scenes.
