WATCH: Kate Winslet Went Ahead And Fixed The Ending Of ‘Titanic’ For You

This year is the 20th anniversary of the greatest film of all time, Titanic – I don’t care, fight me – but in the past, lead actress Kate Winslet hasn’t exactly been glowing in her praise for the movie, or its famous soundtrack. At one point, she told an interviewer that the Celine Dion theme song ‘My Heart Will Go On‘ makes her “feel like throwing up”, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).

That said, Titanic launched Winslet’s career, so she will still pretty gamely discuss it when asked, and during a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbertthat proved unavoidable. She answered a series of quickfire questions about the film, revealing, for example, that Matthew McConaughey was once floated (again, no pun intended) for the Leonardo DiCaprio role, and that she actually auditioned alongside him.

She also said that the famous car handprint scene was improvised on the day, and that she probably should have laughed when asked to deliver the infamous “draw me like one of your French girls” line.  Then there was the matter of the film’s infamous climactic scene, in which Rose lets her lover Jack sink into the icy North Atlantic rather than letting him clamber up on her door, when there was pretty clearly enough room for two on there.

“He just should’ve tried harder to get on that door,” admitted the actress, who graciously agreed to reenact the film’s climatic scene using Colbert’s desk as a stand-in, and give the film the happy ending that we were all denied. Soak it up (pun intended):
