Julie Andrews

In some excellent news, divine human being Julie Andrews has a major voice role in the upcoming Aquaman standalone film.

The DC movie, which stars bloody bloke Jason Momoa in the lead role, throws us into the world of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry as he learns he is the ~heir~ to underwater kingdom Atlantis.

As Entertainment Weekly broke, Oscar-winner Andrews will voice the Karathen, a mythical deep sea creature who has the power to help Arthur unite Atlantis and the surface world.

“We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered,” Aquaman producer Pete Safran told EW. “And when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer.”

An actual no-brainer.

I’m sure you’re aware of it but in the past, Andrews has had voice roles in both Shrek and Despicable Me.

Anywhoo, the Karathen doesn’t seem to appear in the OG DC comics but some fans on Twitter are convinced she’s this humongous creature that appears right at the end of the trailer. The Karathen – if it is her – pops up around the 2:10 mark.

Pretty bloody badass if true.

Amber Heard costars as Mera, Aquaman’s fierce warrior ally; William Dafoe as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; The Conjuring‘s Patrick Wilson stars as the present King of Atlantis AKA Orm/Ocean Master; big dude Dolph Lundgren as Nereus; and our very own Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mama Atlanna.

James Wan, Aussie man behind The Conjuring series, Insidious, Annabelle and just about every other horror film you hate to watch, helms the film.

Aquaman will hit Aussie cinemas, December 26.
