Jordan Peele Is Mailing People Gold Scissors To Promote His New Movie ‘Us’

To promote the release of the first full trailer for Us, Jordan Peele‘s follow-up to his Oscar-winning debut, Get Out, the writer-director-actor-comedian has started mailing influencers pairs of gold scissors, and that freaks me tf out.

Peele revealed the first poster image for the new flick last week – a person in red (clergy?), wearing ONE weird fingerless motorcycle glove, holds a pair of long gold scissors, kinda like surgical ones. They’re menacing is what they are.

You know what’s more menacing than the above image: getting a pair of those scissors in the mail unexpectedly. They’ve sent pairs of the scissors, in a plush red velvet case, to a heap of people, including actress Reagan Gomez, marketer Frederick Joseph, journo Jamila Mustafa, comedian Dani Fernandez, producer Akela Cooper and writer Tonja Renée Stidhum.

The note inside the box reads: “On December 25, Join the Untethering. Watch yourself, Jordan Peele.” The note also features a Rorschach test kinda lead image, of two side-on aces? Or a bunny with bloodshot eyes? Why does this feel so sinister? Why am I frightened now?

Writer Germain Lussier also posted this deeply intimidating, snippy gif.

Us stars Lupita Nyong’oWinston DukeElisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker, alongside Evan AlexMadison CurryCali Sheldon and Noelle Sheldon.

And here’s the full plot synopsis, care of SlashFilm:

A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid’s Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.

The full, presumably sinister, trailer drops on Christmas, and you know we’ll be reporting on it.

Us is due out in March.
