Jarrod From ‘The Bachelorette’ Insists That He’s Not A “Stage Five Clinger”

One of the many things keeping us glued to The Bachelorette this year is the saga of who the hell pissed in Jarrod Woodgate‘s pot plant, and watching him rage at the mere suggestion that any of the other blokes might come between him and Sophie Monk.

This and other incidents like it have given him a reputation for being a bit needy and possessive – “stage five clinger” is a term that gets thrown around – but in a recent interview with News Corp, the winemaker insisted that he’s just had a bit of a dodgy edit.

While the old “bad edit” excuse is always the first one to come out, Woodgate insists that he’s just misunderstood. “People have an idea that I am a little creepy because of what I’ve been doing and how full on I’ve been,” he told Confidential, adding:

“I wear my heart on my sleeve and as soon as a guy starts to show emotion, he becomes creepy and possessive and I’m actually just trying to be a genuine loving caring guy that Sophie wants … I’m not a boring guy, my focus was Sophie, I am only interested in Sophie. I’m not there to become mates with all the other guys in the house. If I find a girl that I’m interested in I will move mountains to be that guy and this is exactly the same attitude I had when I went in there.”

He also told the publication that his mates have expressed concern over his portrayal on the show, on the basis that he’s “never a stage five clinger” and has “always been the one having problems committing to a relationship.”

I mean, yeah, the first thing a clinger would do is try and tell you that they’re really not that clingy, honest, but I guess we’ll take his word for it on this one.

Jarrod is one of nine blokes still in the running to win Sophie Monk‘s heart, and while James is currently surging ahead, the general feeling is that the fix is in for intruder Stu, who already knew Soph going in, and may also have a sneaky few hundred million dollars lying around.

There are eight episodes to go so we’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out, but all I can say is that I hope Sophie lets sweet, beautiful Apollo down gently.
