‘Good Place’ Star Jameela Jamil Slams Tarantino For Casting Emile Hirsch

It was announced this week that actor Emile Hirsch was joining the large ensemble cast of Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming Charles Manson movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but not all were thrilled at this news.

One of these people was The Good Place star Jameela Jamil, who lashed out at the director on Twitter, reminding him of Hirsch’s violent past, which includes time spent in prison for assaulting a woman at a party.

Sharing a picture of the casting announcement along with a middle finger emoji, Jamil fumed:

“Cool. Emile Hirsch strangled my tiny female best friend until she blacked out at a party in front of dozens of witnesses at Sundance Film Festival (and was convicted) but Tarantino just cast him in a movie. INTENSE case of rich white male privelege eh? Cool. Cool. Cool.”

The incident in question occurred in 2015, when Emile Hirsch was charged with aggravated assault after physically accosting and choking Paramount executive Daniele Bernfield at the Tao Nightclub in Park CityUtah.

He eventually pleaded guilty to a charge of misdemeanour assault, and spent 15 days in prison. He has worked steadily since his release, including on the Netflix series Trollhunters, but Tarantino’s upcoming film will likely be his most high profile-role.

Jamil continued, saying that Hirsch’s assault left her friend suffering from PTSD and he did not pay for her treatment. “Emile Hirsch has not [apologised] for this heinous crime, but is re-joining Hollywood’s elite,” she said.

“Slow clap to everyone involved in this movie. So many other actors who haven’t attacked women to choose from …”

Tarantino himself has not yet responded, but we’ll be intrigued to see where this goes.
