Much like any media franchise that reaches anything above marginal success in today’s entertainment landscape, the sexy-teens-solving-murders-in-diners show ‘Riverdale‘ (I don’t watch it sorry but I assume this is spot on?) must now be mined for any and all further financial opportunities, and the first avenue is of course spin-offs.
CW, the network that produces the hit ‘Archie‘ comics reimagining, is by far the biggest culprit of spin-off fever, so of course they’d immediately start looking for ways to maximise on the ‘Riverdale‘ hype, today announcing a new spin-off in the works ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’, which is a (again) a reimagining of… what for it… ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch‘.
Yes, THAT ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch‘, once a comic book in the same universe as ‘Archie‘ but mostly known for the deliciously camp 90s TV show featuring Melissa Joan Hart, a talking cat, zany adventures and some of the worst CGI in the history of visual technology.
Let’s just break this down once more. There’s going to be a GRITTY REBOOT of this show:

To say that we are SHOOK is the greatest understatement of a generation.
EW reveals that ‘The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina‘ will be “a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult… and witchcraft” and is “tonally in the vein of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist’”.
The fact that this new show is a spin-off of ‘Riverdale‘, it also raises questions of whether or not the two shows will co-exist in the same narrative universe i.e. will Sabrina Spellman be popping over to Riverdale to sacrifice Jughead to her satanic overlords? Does magic exist in ‘Riverdale‘ now?
This is all such a completely insane concept and I’m so incredibly here for it.
