The New Trailer For HBO’s ‘His Dark Materials’ Is Already Better Than The Whole 2007 Movie

His Dark Materials

HBO and BBC have unleashed a new trailer for His Dark Materials, and it gives us yet another unreal look at one big-ass (CGI) polar bear. There is a very good chance that this will be your next fantasy binge.

The series is based on Philip Pullman‘s beloved trilogy, the very same that led to the 2007 film adaptation The Golden Compass, starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman. That was a time.

This show stars Dafne Keen (Logan) as Lyra who, while searching for her kidnapped friend, uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and the mysterious phenomenon called Dust. There’s a bit more to the official synopsis but I dare say that’s the gist.

The excellent Ruth Wilson (Luther) stars as terrifying socialite Marisa Coulter, which is very good casting. Clarke Peters (The Wire) stars as Dr. Crane, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) stars as adventurer Lee Scoresby, and Scottish delight James McAvoy (pick your favourite James McAvoy movie) stars as Lord Asriel/Lyra’s uncle.

Anne-Marie DuffWill Keen, Ian Gelder, Georgina Campbell, and James Cosmo also star.

Season 1 has eight episodes, adapted for the little screen by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child). The first two episode are directed by Oscar winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech).

His Dark Materials premieres Monday, November 4 on HBO.

One. More. Month.

UNREAL.

Also, season 2 has already been green lit. Hot Priest AKA Fleabag actor Andrew Scott is set to star as Colonel John Parry, otherwise known to fans of the trilogy as Jopari. Season 2 will also have eight episodes.

AHHH.
