It’s a great time of the year for lovers of lists – sweet, sweet lists – and now there is another one to pore over, with Forbes releasing its annual ranking of the highest-grossing actors and actresses of 2017. The list contains a few very obvious names, a few surprises, and at least one who just refuses to bugger off.
The number one highest-grossing actor is Vin Diesel, who starred in two of the year’s biggest hits, Fate Of The Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, where he voiced the alien tree known as Groot. His earning were also boosted by xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
Second up is Dwayne Johnson, who also starred in Fate Of The Furious, as well as Baywatch and the recently-released Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. In third place is Gal Gadot, who starred in Justice League but stole the show with her solo hit Wonder Woman.
It was another big year for superhero cinema, with Tom Holland, Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth all taking out positions in the top ten thanks to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok and the aforementioned Guardians 2.
Beauty and the Beast was the year’s highest-grossing film internationally, which was enough to put Emma Watson in the number four position, and the success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi put Daisy Ridley and John Boyega in the number six and ten slots.
Johnny Depp, whose star will seemingly never dim, takes out the number five position thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Murder On The Orient Express, two films I had honestly forgotten about until this very minute.
