The First Trailer For HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Series Hits With A Bloody Bang

HBO‘s new series based in the world of the graphic novel and 2009 movie of the same name, Watchmen, has copped its first trailer, and it’s a gritty one, folks.

The movie, which divided critics, was heavily based in Alan Moore‘s 1986 graphic novel, and rather than replicate it again, Damon Lindelof‘s upcoming series will simply take place in a world where the events of the movie/graphic novel actually happened.

You can suss out the trailer for yourself below.

As Lindelof put it in a recent Instagram post, the series will serve the original content as a kind of New Testament.

“When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it,” he wrote. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica.”

It’s hard to pin much of a plot to the series based on the little information we have, but it definitely seems to lean on Rorschach’s character (or perhaps, the memory of), as you can see with all the masks and whatnot. Whatever it ends up being, it looks like it’ll be a wild ride.

Watchmen will air on HBO later this year, but no hard date has been set yet. We also don’t know where it’ll be available in Australia yet, but if it’s like everything else HBO does, there’s a good chance Foxtel will nab it before anyone else.
