HBO’s As Keen On ‘Euphoria’ As You Are & Has Already Renewed It For S2

Euphoria

Euphoria, the HBO show that recently pissed off a lot of faithful One Direction fans, has already been renewed for a second season. I say “already” because its first eight-episode season isn’t even over yet so HBO must be extremely keen.

Euphoria, an American adaptation of the Israeli miniseries of the same name, follows a group of high school students as they try and figure out how to handle love and friendship in a world of sex, drugs, trauma, and social media.

Spider-Man star Zendaya fronts the cast as 17-year-old Rue Bennett, a (sometimes recovering) drug addict. When we first meet her, she’s just gotten out of rehab and soon meets / catches major feelings for the new girl in town, Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer).

The series was created by Sam Levinson and also stars GirlsMaude Apatow, Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Algee Smith, and Sydney Sweeney.

Upon hearing about the renewal news, Zendaya immediately tweeted: “Literally just got the call. Can’t say thank you enough for the support we’ve seen, wow…”

If you haven’t sussed the show, it’s really intense, frank, and raw and really digs deep into issues like misogyny, rape, drug addiction, sexuality, identity, trans identity, and body positivity. Ahead of its premiere, Zendaya issued a warning to her fans reminding them that the series is for a “mature audience.”

“It’s a raw and honest portrait of addiction, anxiety and the difficulties of navigating life today,” she wrote.

“There are scenes that are graphic, hard to watch and can be triggering.

“Please only watch if you feel you can handle it. Do what’s best for you. I will still love you and feel your support.

Not to mention, HBO chairman Richard Plepler told The Hollywood Reporter that Euphoria will make Netflix‘s 13 Reasons Why look like an after-school special…. which is, uh, an interesting way to describe your show.

You can catch the latest episodes of Euphoria on Foxtel.
