Sorry To Shatter Your Hopes & Dreams But Harry Styles Won’t Be In ‘The Little Mermaid’

Harry Styles

MORNING! I’m sorry to ruin your day but divine human being Harry Styles will not be playing Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid. This is despite the absolute mayhem on Twitter this morning, that resulted in both #PrinceEric and #HarryStyles trending in the top two spots for a solid couple of hours there.

So if you’re just waking up, I’ll break it all down for you. This all started after a number of unconfirmed tweets from cinema chains, regarding Harry’s role in the film, appeared on and then quickly disappeared from the social media platform. Key word being unconfirmed. But this is Twitter we’re talking about. And Harry Styles.

Soon after, Disney fan site DisInsider published an “EXCLUSIVE” yarn claiming Harry had in fact “officially” scooped up the role.

*mayhem intensifies*

Nobody knew what to believe. I’ll admit even I was hopeful… and then the blue ticks got to work. The very legitimate Variety and The Wrap have confirmed, via sources, that Harry “amicably” passed on the role. Disney has already started looking at other actors for the part, with the source adding that a decision should be made shortly.

Again, I’m sorry.

Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid officially locked in Halle Bailey as Ariel back in July. At its helm is director Rob Marshall, the man behind a slew of movies like Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods, and Memoirs of a Geisha. Excellent man Lin-Manuel Miranda is also onboard the film, lending his talents to producing and music.

Production is expected to kick off in 2020.
