Harrison Ford Says Absolutely Nobody Can Play Indiana Jones After Him

Indiana Jones

Harrison Ford, in a very Harrison Ford way, has declared nobody is going to play legendary archaeologist Indiana Jones after him.

Appearing on the US Today Show to hype his new film, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Ford was asked who should replace him as Indiana Jones if the franchise were to receive the reboot treatment… since we’re truly in the remake / reboot era of film. Instead of offering up a diplomatic answer, Ford unequivocally said: “Nobody.”

“Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones, don’t you get it?” he said laughing. “I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy.”

Damn right.

“This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this,” he continued. “I’m sorry, man.”

By Pine, Ford probably means Chris Pratt – an understandable oopsie – who has been heavily rumoured to be attached to a reboot of sorts since 2015.

Ford, who has played Indy four times, is set to reprise his iconic role in 2021. The fifth instalment will be directed by Steven Spielberg from a script by Jonathan Kasdan, the son of scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan of Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is a cute little connection. Jonathan’s notable works include Solo: A Star Wars Story, Freaks and Geeks, and The First Time.

Indy 5 was originally slated for a 2019 release but for whatever reason, was pushed back to July 2021. We’ll let you know if that changes.

For now, you can hear Ford in The Secret Life of Pets 2 when it hits Aussie cinemas Thursday, 20 June.

Turns out the legend can voice a great and wise country doggo.
