The full trailer for Hannah Gadsby‘s groundbreaking stand-up special Nanette has been offered up by Netflix, revealing a little bit about why it’s so special – and why it’s not stand-up as we know it.
Without giving too much away, Nanette – which has received numerous runs and global acclaim – has been billed as Gadsby’s last stand-up offering. The reason: the supposed limitations of self-deprecation.
“I’ve built a career out of self-deprecating humour, and I simply will not do that any more, not to myself, or to anyone who identifies as me,” Gadsby says.
It’s a compelling idea for a show, and by all accounts, an absolutely stunning piece of work. It’ll arrive on your screens on June 19, so get keen.
