Gwyneth Paltrow May Have Spoiled The Next ‘Avengers’, If You Love Ruining Things

The next Avengers movie won’t drop for another year, and given the cliffhanger ending of Infinity War it’s no surprise that fans are in speculation overdrive about how they’re going to pull the next one off. Well, there might be a clue in an interview with Gwenyth Paltrow. And by ‘a clue’ I mean ‘she might have just straight up divulged the fundamental premise of the film’.

Okay, so at the end of Infinity War Thanos snapped his fingers after obtaining all the Infinity Stones, instantly wiping out half of all life in the universe, including a bunch of superheroes. The fact that most of those who died literally have scheduled films coming out over the next year or two may have robbed the scene of some punch, which has led fans to speculate exactly how Marvel will bring them back. The most popular theory is that the Avengers will get their hands on the Time Stone somehow and reverse what happened in Infinity War.

Someone found a slightly older interview with Paltrow – who plays Tony Stark‘s love interest Pepper Potts – which could potentially back that theory up.

A child? Now, there were some suggestions in Infinity War that Pepper might be pregnant, but the baby absolutely does not appear in the film. In a deleted scene maybe, but absolutely not in the final product, and that seems like a big thing to cut. The ‘decade later’ reference is ambiguous – it could mean that it’s been a decade since the first Iron Man film, or it could mean that the next Avengers film will take place after a significant time jump.

If the speculated Time Stone plot eventuates, setting the film a decade later would be an interesting way to up the stakes, as it means that the surviving heroes would have to erase a significant portion of their lives to bring their friends back. That’s a cool way to play it, and and interesting place to take Stark’s character especially.

Of course, this could just be a false bread trail, or Paltrow getting her facts confused while speaking off the cuff. That being said, Mark Ruffalo really did spoil the Infinity War ending last year and barely anyone noticed, so it’s not an impossibility that this is true. Guess we won’t really know for a while.
