Hey Upper East Siders, we have news to share: HBO’s 2020 Gossip Girl reboot won’t be as straight and white as the OG series. Expected news, yes, but welcomed tea nonetheless.

Joshua Safran, the OG show’s executive producer, visited Vulture Festival over the weekend to chat about the upcoming series. During the interview, Safran acknowledged the lack of representation in the OG series and discussed the newfound importance of establishing a multitude of identities in the reboot to better reflect the society it’s portraying.

“There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show,” he said, according to Vulture. “I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to private school in New York in the ’90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl.”

“So, this time around the leads are non-white. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that.”

This delightful news follows the equally-delightful news that Kristen Bell will be returning as the show’s narrator.

This reboot is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it?

Until next time, my fellow tea-pourers. You know you love me.
