Gal Gadot Seems Remarkably Chill About Her ‘Wonder Woman’ Oscar Snub

The Academy Award nominations were released earlier this week, and many punters were sad, albeit not all that surprised, to see that Gal Gadot failed to score a nod for playing the lead role in the critically and commercially-adored Wonder Woman

Although the Oscars typically don’t shower glory on superhero films outside of the technical categories, there have been a few exceptions of late – for instance, Scott Frank, James Mangold and Michael Green are up for a Best Adapted Screenplay award this year for Logan

Heath Ledger picked up a posthumous Best Supporting Actor award for The Dark Knightand of course, the unholy mess that is Suicide Squad will forever be remembered as an Oscar-winning film for its achievements in the field of makeup and hair-styling.

While it was therefore possible for Gal Gadot to be nominated, come the announcement, she was snubbed. Oddly, Gadot herself appears to be taking the news best, as she spoke to Entertainment Tonight in the wake of the news, saying:

“I was very moved and touched by the people who were disappointed that Wonder Woman wasn’t nominated, but we certainly never did the movie for that. I think that you can’t have it all. We’ve done this movie and it was received in such an amazing, wonderful way, and we want to stay humble and grateful, and we’re going to have another movie, so who knows? Maybe the next one!”

Maybe the next one, indeed.

It was announced this week that Wonder Woman 2 will be the first film to actually adopt the Producer’s Guild of Ameria‘s new anti-sexual harassment guidelines, released last Friday in response to Hollywood’s heightened awareness of harassment and assault.

The sequel is set to be released in 2019, with Gadot in the lead role and Patty Jenkins once again in the director’s chair.
