In a big casting announcement for what is sure to be your new favourite movie, Emma Watson is set to star in Greta Gerwig‘s upcoming Little Women adaptation, taking over a role that was originally to be played by Emma Stone.

Stone was reportedly forced to drop out of the project thanks to promotional duties on her other new film, period drama The Contender. Production on Little Women is set to start next month, and Sony moved quickly to lock in Watson for the part.
Funnily enough, this is not the first time one of the Emmas has been switched out for another – Damien Chazelle‘s musical La La Land originally starred Emma Watson and Miles Teller, before they were replaced by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
Little Women, based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, tells the story of four sisters during the American Civil War era. It was previously adapted for the screen by Gillian Armstrong, with a cast that included Winona Ryder and Kirsten Dunst.
Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet, both of whom starred in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, are in negotiations to star in this version, alongside Meryl Streep and Laura Dern, which is basically a dream cast for any movie.
