We ship the love between British goddess Emily Blunt and her hubby, the hunky and sweet like a bear/Jim from The Office, John Krasinski.
So much so that we’ve been thinking about them as #CoupleGoals for a little while now – spurred on by the upcoming release of A Quiet Place on April 5, starring both Blunt and Krasinski, and directed and co-written by just Jim. It’s the first time they’ve collabed on a film project together, and has prompted us to chart Krasinski’s evolution from affable Office guy to mega movie star their love like astrologers chartin’ the stars.
It’s a suspenseful and intense thriller which had its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival in Austin in early March to a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. NICE. The pair star in the film as a couple, and the parents of two children, who live in silence in post-apocalyptic America, using their ingenuity both to communicate with each other and to stay alive. Those who make a sound are hunted by shadowy creatures, a terrifying ever-present, all-encompassing threat: if they hear you, they hunt you.
Now, back to their functioning relationship which could make even the biggest couple-hater consider settling down.
We Cannot Get Past Their Christmas Prank Feud With Jimmy Kimmel
In the long, long ago (2014), Jimmy Kimmel told us about the four-year Christmas prank feud he and his wife Molly McNearney had with their then-neighbours Blunt and Krasinski.
The latter pair had a key to the Kimmel home, and in 2011, left a Santa and snowman light display in their entrance hall – so Kimmel retaliated with a neon insurance sign bought off Craigslist in their driveway. Then in 2012, Blunt and Krasinki planted a very terrifying zombie in the Kimmel garden, to which Kimmel responded with a 26-foot inflatable reindeer (plus legit reindeer shit). And then the feud reached its penultimate stage when Kimmel giftwrapped their entire house.
The feud’s conclusion? It’s glorious, and it deserves your full attention:
They Gave Us The Lolz On Lip Sync Battle
Fun fact for ya: John Krasinski is one of the co-creators of Lip Sync Battle, which you’d remember as first a Jimmy Fallon segment and then as its own series, where celebs try to mouth the words to famous songs with as much enthusiasm as humanly possible. Also LL Cool J and our best friend Chrissy Teigen are there.
The story of its origins is a v sweet one: when asked by LSB‘s other co-creator Stephen Merchant what he’d like to do on The Tonight Show, Krasinski said: “What if we did this thing like 8 Mile, but we lip-synced?” So, he, Merchant and Emily Blunt gave it a crack in the car.
As things are want to escalate, by 2015, Krasinski was sharing the LSB series stage with Anna Kendrick. And Kendrick did this with One Direction‘s ‘Steal My Girl‘:

We Admire The Way They Can Be Proud Of Each Other So Publicly
The specific example of how they do this – aside from accompanying each other on all the red carpets, complete with cute af whispers, lotsa laffs and supportive Insta posts – takes us back to the 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
Blunt won Best Action Movie Actress for Edge of Tomorrow, so Krasinski, unable to contain his delight, dashed out from backstage (he was set to present next) to celebrate with his wife. Like in the footage he literally appears from behind her to cry ‘YES!’ and give her a hug ‘n kiss. And she bloody squeals with glee. All as presenters Leslie Mann and Josh Gad watch on.
So of course she has to shout him out in her acceptance speech as her “sneaky husband“, thanking him “for being okay with the fact that he was married to a veiny, sinewy wrestler for the duration of this film, and also coming up with my favourite line ever, which was: ‘I’m terrified I’m gonna wake up one morning and you’re benching me.’”
Our Hearts Are Warmed By Their Fangirling Over Each Other
Good relationships are built on unconditional support/being a huge fan of someone’s movies before you’ve ever met them.
Y’know how we mentioned The Devil Wears Prada before? Yeah, Krasinski heckin’ loves that movie (and who can blame him). Like he admitted to E! News in 2016 that he had seen it a whopping 75 times, but only told Blunt about his obsession about a year into their relationship. And that’s well after she almost caught him at it:
She opened the door and I flipped the channel and she looked at me like, ‘Were you just watching porn?’…I think it was better for me at the time for her to think I was watching porn than watching The Devil Wears Prada for the 75th time.
But Krasinski is not alone in his admiration for Blunt – it’s reciprocated; when he featured in an Off-Broadway play, Dry Powder in 2016, Blunt went to see the production four times across its six-week run and had to stop herself from dashing on stage to fix a wardrobe malfunction on opening night.
We Feel Jealous Of Their – Well, Blunt’s – Hidden Talents
And how Krasinski happily gushes over them to the press.
Yup, speakin’ of keeping things from your partner – like Krasinski’s v understandable obsession with The Devil Wears Prada – Blunt never told him she could sing. So he found out when she was filming the musical Into the Woods in 2014.
He told Vanity Fair this year, for their cover story on Blunt, that he had “never heard her sing a note“, and as such was “nervous for her“, because he figured they were both “low mediocre” singing talents. So he stopped into an Into the Woods recording session months later.
…The orchestra started playing, and Emily started singing, and I just immediately wept… It was really wild. It was like finding out that your wife can levitate. It was just like, ‘When were you going to tell me this?’
We Can’t Get Over How Hyped They Are To Work Together
In the very same Vanity Fair story, Blunt spoke about finally having the opportunity to work with Krasinski on a film with high-concept thriller A Quiet Place. First she’d encouraged Krasinski to direct, even suggesting possible lead actresses for the role that would ultimately be hers, but then after she read his redraft of the script she changed her mind:
I had this overwhelming feeling of ‘I don’t want anybody else to play this part. I said, ‘Would you feel weird if I did the movie with you?’ And he broke out into this sort of ecstatic smile. I felt completely sure about it in a way I hadn’t before. It was a film that represented some of my deepest fears – of not being able to protect my children.
It’s not exactly the first time they’ve worked together however: in late 2016, Film Independent held a Live Read in NYC of the beloved Good Will Hunting, this time directed by Krasinski: Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reprised their OG roles in the 1997 film, with Blunt playing Skylar, Damon’s love interest, originally played by Minnie Driver.
