Ansel Elgort & Harry Styles Both In The Running To Play Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis

Harry Styles and Ansel Elgort.

Harry Styles is among the actors being considered by Baz Luhrmann to play the titular hip-gyrating, contemporaneous-old-people-infuriating rock and roll legend in his upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, according to a report from Deadline.

Styles was reportedly screen tested last weekend, alongside Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Austin Butler, with The Hollywood Reporter citing sources claiming that Kick Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was also in the mix.

According to Deadline, the actors all “all can sing” and “showed their hip swivel and sneer to Luhrmann“, with Lurhmann to make a decision on who he wants to do so on the big screen by “next week“.

While you almost certainly recognise Styles’ name and likely know Elgort from Baby Driver and Teller from Whiplash, Butler is a bit more of a rising star. The 27-year-old played Jack in the recent Jim Jarmusch zombie film The Dead Don’t Die, and will be playing Manson Family member Charles “Tex” Watson in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Tom Hanks is reportedly already set to play Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker, with a lot of the movie focused on the relationship between the pair as Elvis’ star rises.
