PSA: Elton John Slays His Starring Role In ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’

Contributor: Pedestrian

Sir Elton John‘s upcoming pilgrimage to Australia for his Once In A Lifetime tour has had a lot of us fervently saying our Hail Marys for some time now. But that’s not the only holier-than-holy gift the legend is bestowing to us this week. Yes, we were pretty stoked to hear that he’d be making an appearance in the highly-anticipated sequel of the first Kingsman instalment, Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

The real kicker, however, is that it doesn’t look like it’s just a casual cameo situation. Given that he’s credited on the movie’s posters, it looks as though he’s a fully-fledged cast member – and that’s… that’s something we’re outrageously here for.

The folks behind Kingsman: The Golden Circle (which is released in cinemas September 21, as in, THIS BLOODY THURSDAY) have been extremely tight-lipped about the legend’s role, but comments from co-star Taron Egerton (returning as the OG protagonist Gary “Eggsy” Unwin) to Digital Spy confirm that we’re all in for a wild ride:

You’ve never seen him like this, he’s hilarious in it. [His role is] quite significant, as well. It’s not a walk-on. He’s there. He’s in the movie… and he’s so funny. He’s superb.

While it’s been frustrating for those of us eager to see what exactly his position in the film will entail, Ellen released new sneak-peek footage a few days ago that gives a “blink or you’ll miss it” glimpse of what to expect. Sure, it doesn’t give away a whole heap, but it’s worth checking out to see more of stars like Julianne Moore who plays Poppy (a villain who’s been described as Martha Stewart on crack”), as well as Channing Tatum‘s bourbon-swilling Cowboy character, Tequila.

On the off chance this is the first time you’re being exposed to this blockbuster, the aforementioned Hollywood elite are just a few of the cast’s stellar line-up. Additional household name’s featuring in the film include Colin Firth (playing the we-all-thought-you-were-dead part of Harry Hart), Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges and Mark Strong.

Co-written/produced and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is an expansion of the franchise’s universe which introduces the Statesman (AKA the Kingsman’s across-the-pond allies in the US). Yep, it’s set to be the rowdiest, most explosive movie event of the year. Like, what does a gentleman spy + an eccentric villain + a hot-shot American + a bionic henchman + far-fetched plot + an all-star cast equal? A proper goddamn spy movie, people.

If the first Kingsman flick is anything to go by, you won’t want to miss this one folks. Check it out in cinemas September 21 (as in, THIS BLOODY THURSDAY).
