2018 is days away from ending but that doesn’t mean the Year of the Musicals has come to a halt. Teen Spirit is the latest trailer to do the rounds and like others in its genre, includes a familiar face belting out an absolute tune. This time, it’s Elle Fanning.

Fanning, who you might recognise from such titles as Maleficent, Mary Shelley, and The Neon Demon, stars as Violet, a teenager more than ready to escape her hometown. With dreams of singing and performing on the big stage, she enters a local talent competition – Teen Spirit – where, together with an unlikely mentor, Violet chases her dreams.
In the trailer alone, Fanning covers Robyn‘s iconic song ‘Dancing On My Own’. We also learn she’ll be performing renditions of songs by Ellie Goulding, Sigrid, and Carly Rae Jepson to name a few. The film will also feature music by Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and Grimes so yep, seems like a decent young adult flick.
Rebecca Hall, Zlatko Buric, and Millie Brady co-star.
The film, which also has a producer from that lil’ film La La Land, comes from director Max Minghella.
