Turns Out Eleven Was *This Close* To Being Killed Off In ‘Stranger Things’

One of the Stranger Things creators has revealed the bombshell news that Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, was originally meant to die in season one.

Speaking at a Q&A at Chapman University in California, co-creator Ross Duffer reportedly admitted:

“Maybe I shouldn’t say this because I like to pretend that it was all planned out, but [the show] was originally pitched as a limited series. So it was like, Eleven was gonna sacrifice herself and save the world and then that was gonna be it.”

Of course, we do know that Eleven saved everyone from the Demogorgon and simply disappeared for a very (very) short amount of time in the Upside Down. But man. Can you imagine how Mike would be if Eleven did die? Who would be that cruel?

It all came down to Netflix not being super into the idea of a limit series, so we can apparently thank the streaming service’s bottom line for more Eleven.

“This is where the business side comes in. When we started pitching it it was like ‘we don’t make money off of limited series.’ And I remember when we went into Netflix and we pitched this they were like ‘well, we like this but how could it keep going?’ And you’re just sort of riffing in the moment and we were like ‘well Will’s back from this other dimension and he’s not doing very well.’ And they were like ‘great!’”

Stranger Things is currently planned to run till at least a fourth season, so there’s a heap more MBB coming your way – thank the sweet content gods, tbh.

Most recently, the Duffer brothers were in the spotlight for [SPOILERS] orchestrating an unscripted kiss between Sadie Sink‘s character Max and Caleb McLaughlin‘s character Lucas after learning how uncomfortable the idea made Sink feel. Neither Matt or Ross Duffer have yet to comment on the backlash.
