In what may be the most eagerly-awaited hero team-up of the year – and yes, I’m fully taking Avengers: Endgame into account here – Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are set to get together to kick bad guy Idris Elba‘s butt in the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.
The first official trailer for the film arrived overnight, and we are delighted to report that it seems to be both fast and furious in equal parts. The tone of this trailer is part superhero flick, part buddy cop comedy, and it’s a wild combination, but we’re definitely on board:
Right off the bat, the trailer introduces us to Brixton, the super-powered villain played by Elba. Dwayne Johnson reprises the role of Luke Hobbs while Jason Statham returns as Deckard Shaw, and it seems these two bickering buds are the only people who can foil his diabolical plan.
David Leitch of Deadpool 2 directed Hobbs & Shaw, from a script by long-time Fast & Furious writer Chris Morgan. Vanessa Kirby of Mission Impossible: Fallout also stars, along with Eiza González as Madam M.
The film due to be released on August 1 in Australia.
