Downton Abbey

If the Downton Abbey telly series wasn’t fancy enough for you, the movie will absolutely blow your elbow gloves off because the royals are making a visit.

Back in 2018, director Michael Engler teased the movie would include an event so special it asked for the return of the Crawley‘s former butler Carson (Jim Carter). At the end of the final season, Carson resigns after showing some symptoms of palsy. Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier), his scheming days behind him, takes over as Head Butler under the guidance of Carson.

“When this event happens and all hands are needed on deck, [Carson’s] called into service, and he becomes part of the success story,” Engler teased in late 2018.

Earlier today at CinemaCon, the film’s trailer was shown at the convention revealing King George V and Queen Mary drop by for a visit. Variety reports the trailer also included some dialogue between Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and her loyal maid Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt) as the former considers leaving Downton for a new life.

“Downton Abbey is the heart of this community and you’re keeping it beating,” Anna tells Mary.

Deadline added the trailer kicks off with the ringing of the kitchen bells and that long drive up to the mansion so prepare for a lot of feelings.

The film, set in 1927, also stars Laura Carmichael, Elizabeth McGovern, Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Matthew Goode, Allen Leech, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Haig, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, and Phyllis Logan… to name just a few.

Last month, Downton Abbey released a number of glamorous character posters including one of Mary and another of Edith.

Downton Abbey will land in cinemas this September. Stay tuned for the trailer.

For old times’ sake.
