The ‘Downton Abbey’ Cast Are Finally Reuniting For A Big Ol’ Fancy Flick

IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING – Downton Abbey ~ the film ~ will begin production this summer with our beloved favourites Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, and Michelle Dockery already confirmed to reprise their roles.

The addictive historical series came to an end after six seasons back in 2015 with a highly satisfying ending so who knows what the movie will bring.

The show’s official Twitter announced the news last night with the caption “Welcome back to Downton! We’re thrilled to announce that Downton Abbey is coming to the big screen. Film production begins this summer.”

As you may remember Downton Abbey tells the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work at Grantham. There’s drama – people die, people cry, scandalous babies are born, and Theo James dies having sex. It really did have everything so the fact that the film is finally a goer is divine news.

Per Deadline – the film’s screenplay has already been written by show creator Julian Fellowes who will also produce the film. Brian Percival, director of The Book Thief, North and South (!!!!)and the Downton Abbey pilot will helm the film.

So, the movie’s in incredibly good hands.

In case your mind’s a bit foggy – the last season of Downton Abbey had Mary (Dockery) and Henry (Matthew Goode) expecting their first bub while Henry and Tom (Allen Leech) kick off their car dealership.

If I remember correctly, Tom also has a little moment with someone in one of the last episodes and there’s some romantic foreshadowing there (???).

Anna (Joanne Froggatt) and Bates (Brendan Coyle) live happily ever after with their newborn baby; Robert (Bonneville) stops being a shit and accepts that Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) can have a life outside the home; Daisy (Sophie McShera) and Andy (Michael C. Fox) are bloody cute together; Edith (Laura Carmichael)whose life had been SHITE marries Bertie (Harry Hadden-Paton) and outranks everyone.

And, Thomas (Rob James-Collier) – the man whose character was so complicated, so sad, and so hated (at times) takes the place of our dearly beloved Carson (Jim Carter) when he’s no longer able to perform his honourable duties anymore.

All good though, Carson’s in marital bliss with Mrs Hughes (Phyllis Logan).

According to Deadline – not all recurring characters will appear in the feature film but Highclere Castle AKA Grantham’s a done deal.

There’s yet to be a release date but we’ll keep ya updated.

Also, if we’re talking about Downton Abbey then this is a must:

ICONIC.

In the mean time, Downton Abbey is available to stream on Netflix, right now.
