Donald Glover Reveals Tension And Concerns On The ‘Han Solo’ Film Set

Donald Glover, a man we can all agree is essentially the most talented entertainer on the planet, has spoken pretty bloody frankly about the tension between him and director Ron Howard on the Han Solo film set.

In a must-read profile in the latest edition of The Hollywood Reporter, the Lando Calrissian actor gave some context to the firing of original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, and described the working relationship he’s developed with Howard.

“Ron is such a legend, and he knows exactly what the vision for what he is doing is,” Glover says, but he also admits to worrying about not being Howard’s “first choice” for the role.

Miller and Lord were booted after concerns from heavy-hitting Disney chiefs regarding their largely improvisational style – a method of working that Glover relishes in. (Community creator Dan Harmon even features in the piece, telling THR “I remember there was a transitional point where we literally started writing in the script, ‘And then Donald says something funny.’ “)

As for precise details as to why the duo were replaced, Glover says “I don’t know exactly what happened.

“I feel like I was the baby in the divorce, or the youngest child. The oldest child is like, ‘We know what’s happening, but we are keeping you out of it.’”

Glover, himself a rising star of a director thanks to Atlanta, went as far to say “I don’t want to be the next Ron Howard or the next anybody else.”

“My job is to do what Ron could have never done.”

For his part, Harmon agrees. “Look at his ascent,” he says.

“If I were Donald Glover, I would try eating the moon, because we’re not so sure he can’t until he tries since everything he tries he succeeds at.”

The Han Solo stand-alone flick is scheduled for release on 28 May 2018. That gives you plenty of time to obsess over the feature, which you can read right HERE.
