Disney’s Entire Film Library Will Be On Its Streaming Service So Sign Us Up

Disney

Somewhere out there is a ‘vault’ filled with 34 of your favourite classic Disney films. These movies run on a cycle wherein every few years, a movie will be re-released for a limited time – an anniversary special of The Little Mermaid for example – before it returns to the vault.

At this year’s annual shareholders meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger all but confirmed the vault’s catalogue of movies will find a new home on the forthcoming streaming service Disney+.

Translation? The vault will be no more.

That’s Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Bambi, Aladdin, and Alice in Wonderland to name a few. Then there are the followups and remakes which include The Lion King II, Cinderella II, and Bambi II.

“At some point, fairly soon after the launch [of Disney+], it will house the entire Disney motion picture library. So the movies … that have traditionally been kept in a vault and have been brought out every few years will be on the service,” Iger said.

For devoted Disney fans, this is a pretty big deal.

To compete against… well… Netflix, Disney+ is bringing out all the big guns. We’re talking a bunch of Marvel and Star Wars titles both old and new hence why the Avengers and such were pulled off of Netflix. In fact, Captain Marvel will be the first MCU movie to exclusively stream on Disney+.

Jon Favreau‘s live-action series, The Mandalorian, is probably one of the more highly-anticipated new additions. The series will take place after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett and will introduce us to another warrior.

“The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic…”

There’ll also be a new High School Musical series and an animated Monsters Inc. show.

Disney+ is expected to launch later this year.
