OMG There’s Going To Be A ‘Dirty John’ TV Series & Connie Britton’s Involved

The intensely gripping true crime podcast Dirty John is being turned into a television anthology, and Connie Britton is set to star. Genius casting? You’re absolutely goddamn right.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Briton will play real life interior designer Debra Newell, who was seduced and manipulated by grifter John Meehan.

Her story of surviving Meehan’s web of lies and abuse was detailed in LA Times reporter’s Chris Goffard‘s reporting and podcast. The podcast, itself a deeply suspenseful tale that opens with an autopsy report and traces the steps towards the killing, spent weeks as the No. 1 podcast on iTunes.

The series has landed at Bravo – the network better known for reality content including the many Real Housewives iterations – with a two season order. Season two is set to feature an entirely new cast and story. All that is yet to be announced, but presumably it’ll be an adaptation of another true crime story. Can I suggest they look at *waves in the general direction of one thousand true crime podcasts* for inspo?

No word yet on who else is joining the cast, but as for Connie Britton as Debra Newell? We absolutely buy it.

John Meehan and Debra Newell.

There’s no premiere date yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
