Cancel All Hot Dates, ‘Dirty John’ Is Hitting Netflix On Valentine’s Day

After being teased for the last six months about the TV adaptation of the Dirty John true crime podcast – where our very own Eric Bana plays the horrible, manipulative, obsessive John Meehan – and now it’s finally going to be on Netflix.

What better way to celebrate February 14, the big love day, than binge-watching a series that explores the sheer terror of falling in love with someone who is 110% not what they seem? Nothing, that’s what. Absolutely nothing.

I know you’re all wild for true crime at the moment, so do what I’m going to do and make your only Valentines Day date with Eric Bana playing easily the most terrifying role he’s ever played.

If you’re not totally up to speed on the story, the podcast, or the series, then buckle up cos here’s a very quick rundown.

Dirty John follows Debra Newell (played by Connie Britton) – a confident, self-employed businesswoman from California who is trying out online dating for the first time. On a dating site, she meets John Meehan (Eric Bana), and the two hit it off immediately.

He showers her with affection and attention, and she falls head over heels for this fella she barely knows. But her daughters Veronica (Juno Temple) and Terra (Julia Garner) smell a rat, and believe John is too good to be true – that he has to be hiding something.

The shit absolutely hits the fan when Debra begins to scratch the surface of John’s life, and honestly, it’s fucking terrifying to know that this is an actual real-life thing that happened in 2014. Literally THIS decade.

Anyway, it’s looking to be a red-hot series and there’s already whispers (and an IMBD page) for season two, so check out the official Aussie trailer below and mark your calendar/set a reminder for Feb 14, because you’ve got a hot date with Dirty John.
