Today, after a fan asked Bautista what his plans were if Disney didn’t rehire Gunn, Bautista replied:

“I will do what I’m legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG. It’s also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis. That’s just how I feel.”

Gunn was fired after a series of tweets resurfaced online from between 2008 and 2011, showing the now 51-year-old making jokes about paedophilia and rape.

In a statement to VarietyGunn said he understood and accepted Disney’s decision and took full responsibility for his past behaviour.

Bautista, who plays Drax, The Destroyer in the franchise, first tweeted against Disney just hours after Gunn’s dismissal writing he was “NOT ok” with Gunn’s removal. The former WWE star has since fired off a number of tweets repeatedly Batista Bombing Disney for their decision.

The actor also tweeted details for a change.org petition demanding Disney reinstate Gunn as director for the third GOTG film.

Last week, Bautista’s GOTG castmates Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, and Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn all signed an open letter declaring their support for the fired director.

In his particular post, Pratt said that although he doesn’t support Gunn’s “inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I’d personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3.”

Despite the vocal push back, it appears very unlikely Disney will reverse their decision. A replacement director for the third GOTG has yet to be announced, due for release in 2020.
