Daniel Radcliffe believes a full-on reboot of the Harry Potter film series is likely, suggesting he will hardly be the only actor to ever portray The Chosen One on the big screen.
In his typically unfazed style, Radcliffe told IGN “I’m sure there will be some other version of it; I know I’m not the last Harry Potter I’m gonna see in my lifetime.”
Radcliffe pointed to the actors who’ve portrayed The Boy Who Lived during the theatre run of Harry Potter & The Cursed Child – a number which includes Gareth Reeves, who plays Potter in the Melbourne stage production – as proof the role isn’t entirely defined by his presence.
The 29-year-old said there is still a “sacredness” around the eight-film series, but that won’t last forever.
“The shine will wear off at some point,” he said.
He’s hardly over-protective of the role, mind you. The Brit added he’s “fascinated to watch” new interpretations of J.K. Rowling‘s breakout series, whether they be rebooted films or big-budget series.
That chat came about during press engagements for his new series, Miracle Workers (which has just premiered exclusively on Stan). While there’s definitely a touch of the supernatural around the show, which features Radcliffe as an angel charged with answering prayers for God (Steve Buscemi!), it still looks like a welcome departure from the films which made him an international superstar.
Depending on how strongly you want to see a fresh take on the era-defining Harry Potter film series, you prayers eventually may be answered, too.
