Crazy Rich Asians – romantic comedy – has made an excellent 5.22 million Aussie buckeroos on its opening weekend across the country.

Helmed by director Jon M. Chu, Crazy Rich Asians earned the big bucks after debuting in 477 cinemas in Aus. But, it also made an extra $2.12 million in advanced screenings so this rounds up the film’s total and currently recorded Aussie box office to $7.34 million.
This success knocks The Meg off the No. 1 spot for the week but they still added an easy $1.2 million to its total earnings of about $8 million. Similar newcomer Mile 22 starring Mark Wahlberg came in at third with $1.2 million for its opening weekend as per the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
A huge win for diversity and the first all Asian Hollywood cast in 25 years, Crazy Rich Asians has been having a spectacular time at the North American box office. This past weekend saw it keep the No.1 sport for the third week in a row after making a cool $22.2 million USD. This brings its total domestic earnings across the 100 million dollar mark with $110,961,388 USD according to Box Office Mojo.
Stoked with the news, stars from the film shared the extreme success with their fans including frontwoman Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Ronny Chieng.

Based on the 2013 New York Times Bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians propels us into the world of New Yorker Rachel Chu (Wu) who accompanies her long-term boyfriend Nick Young (Golding) to Singapore for his mate, Colin’s wedding.
A bit suss upon entering the first-class seating on the plane, Rachel is more than shocked to learn Nick belongs to one of the wealthiest families in Singapore.
Add Nick’s disapproving mother, a lush wedding, and a whole lot decadence and you’ve got yourself a beauty of a romantic comedy.
