Cards on the table, the phrases “Coen brothers” and “new western” should be enough to cause most of you to spontaneously suffer a loosening of the arse-portion of your pants.
We already knew that Joel and Ethan were returning to their oft-visited genre for what frankly sounds like an utterly insane new series. But the good news from today is that the new show has itself a fancy new home, and Australians won’t have to wait any longer than the rest of the world to see it.
The Coen’s upcoming show The Ballad of Buster Scruggs has been picked up be ye olde Netflix, who will be distributing the series as a Netflix Original.
The show, an anthology series set in the American frontier, is a six-part series focusing on a different story each episode. That’s ah… that’s about all we know at the moment.
We do know that the Coens are set to write, direct, and produce all six episodes, and that Netflix is planning on screening the series at some point in 2018. The Coens themselves announced the deal with Netflix in typical Coen fashion:

Netflix’s statement on the deal was far more media-standard, with vice president of original content Cindy Holland extolling the legendary duo’s virtues thusly:
The Coens are visionary directors, masterful storytellers, and colourful linguists. We are thrilled for Netflix to become home to the full range of their talents.
Perennial Coen collaborator Tim Blake Nelson is the only name attached to the cast for the time being, but given the brothers’ propensity to work with a familiar roster of actors, expect more familiar faces to appear once the show hits screens.
