I was naive to think the Clueless reboot would just be a reboot – a shiny new 2020 version of the iconic movie, an extension of the 1996 series also based on the flick. But I was wrong. I was so, so wrong.

Deadline reports the reboot will be an hourlong TV series, with Mean Girls / Riverdale / Lizzo music video vibes. That is what Deadline wrote. I’m not taking the piss.

“It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fuelled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans.”

I – yep. Cool. Anyway, they’re doing a Clueless reboot without Cher Horowitz. Cher just straight up disappears. Dionne will now have to navigate being the school’s new it girl and solve the disappearance of her best friend.

So now it’s also got a Nancy Drew element to it too, apparently.

Corinne Brinkerhoff of No Tomorrow and Jane the Virgin will serve as executive producer with Tiffany Grant and one of the film’s OG producers, Robert Lawrence.

I don’t know. I don’t want to make a judgement until I’ve seen a trailer or a couple of pics but I will say I am… apprehensive.

Stay tuned for whatever else comes to light.

If you suddenly feel the need to purge yourself of this information, you can watch Clueless  – starring Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd – on Netflix now.

Meanwhile, on Twitter…
