Well, there you have it folks. Cary Joji Fukunaga is locked in as director for Bond 25, replacing previous director Danny Boyle.

If you’re going to find anyone to replace Boyle, Fukunaga is a bloody good choice.
As a director Fukunaga’s credits include Netflix‘s critically acclaimed Beast of No Nation, the 2011 Jane Eyre, Netflix’s upcoming series Maniac starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, and season one of True Detective – the elite season. Oh, and he was the screenwriter on It.
Fun connection time: Beast of No Nation stars Idris Elba – some of the people’s choice for a new James Bond… although he set sail to that boat last month.
The franchise’s official Twitter announced the news of Fukunaga’s appointment in a statement:
“Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.”

Last month, Boyle abruptly pulled out of Bond 25 due to “creative differences”. Again, the news was announced in a tweet by Wilson, Broccoli, and current Bond Craig.
Bond 25 will hit cinemas 14 February, 2020.
In the meantime, he’s a new look at Fukunaga’s latest, Maniac.
The gist is Annie Landsberg (Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Hill) are two strangers in the late stages of a mysterious pharmaceutical trial. Expect your mind to melt a little.
Maniac will hit the streaming giant on September 21… although if we’re running by America‘s clock, September 22.
