Todd also appeared to confirm Carrie’s role in the film as Princess Leia turned General Organa will be more than just a cameo.

At the time of casting, director J.J. Abrams revealed in a statement that, with the approval of her daughter Billie Lourd, Episode IX will use unused footage from The Force Awakens.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Appearing on Good Morning America on the two-year anniversary of his sister’s death, Todd Fisher said the family were “thrilled at what’s been done”.

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes,” he said. “This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday. We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything, but we’re thrilled at what’s been done.”

In July 2018, Todd shared that he “couldn’t be more personally thrilled and happy that our Carrie will reprise her role as Princess Leia in the new and final ‘Star Wars Episode IX.’

Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren/Ben Solo), John Boyega (Finn),and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) will return alongside legends Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian).

Star Wars: Episode IX is slated for a December 2019 release.
