Busy Philipps Says James Franco Assault Story Has Distracted From Her Book

Actress Busy Philipps, who recently published her memoir This Will Only Hurt A Little, has complained that her story about being assaulted by James Franco on the set of Freaks & Geeks ended up pulling focus away from the rest of the book.

During a recent appearance on Andy Cohen‘s Watch What Happens Live, the actress expressed frustration that the story, which had been widely reported before, but was picked up again in the wake of the book, overwhelmed the entire press tour.

“It really bummed me out,” she told Cohen, with whom she had originally shared the story in the first place. “I felt like, I’m a woman in this industry who wrote a very personal book about my experiences in life and in this industry.” You can watch the two talk about it below:

She also took The Hollywood Reporter to task in an Instagram post last week, complaining that their extensive profile of her was reduced to a “clickbait headline” about her experience with Franco, and noting that it has since been changed.

“On that note, my book is 308 pages, not one paragraph,” she wrote. “The Franco story is used to illustrate a larger point about the way women are treated in this business and in life.”
