Prince earned recognition after her critically-acclaimed role in the 2017 film The Florida Project, co-starring Willem Dafoe and directed by Sean Baker.

You can check out the trailer below.

For her performance, Prince was awarded Best Young Actor/Actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards in early 2018. In her speech, she invited her fellow nominees to go out for ice-cream, afterwards.

Now, Prince is kicking off 2019 by directing her own short film called Colours.

“My dream of directing started on The Florida Project,” she wrote on Instagram“I loved watching Sean work and was inspired by his patience, vision, and creativity. Since then my dream was to become one of the youngest directors of all time. Today my journey as a director begins. Thank you to my friend and mentor, Sean Baker for believing in me, and to the amazing cast and crew. I hope to make you all very proud. I can’t wait for the world to see Colours.”

The camera is taller than her. THE CAMERA IS TALLER THAN HER.

Not even in the double digits, yet.

Her mentor and fellow director, Baker, tweeted his support for the film: “Location scouting for @thebrooklynnk’s directorial debut. A short called Colours. She writes, stars, and directs and oh… she’s 8 years old.”

In an interview from 2017, Prince told The Guardian that, if she wasn’t an actor, she might’ve gone into directing.

“I’ve got this app on my iPad called iMovie and I did one practice movie and now we’re making a romance movie in New York about my mommy and daddy. That’s their anniversary present.”

Incredible.
