WATCH: Superhero Horror Movie ‘Brightburn’ Cops A Spooky New Trailer

Few comic book hypotheticals have been posed as frequently as one of the most simple: what if adopting an alien with super powers who crash-landed on your farm is actually a fairly shithouse idea? I’d probably leave the alien exactly where he landed, personally.

It’s the concept behind producer James Gunn‘s upcoming horror movie, Brightburn. The second trailer has just dropped and it looks… pretty cool, in fact.

Directed by David Yarovesky, produced by Guardians of the Galaxy director Gunn and written by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn – yes, that is a lot of involved Gunns –Brightburn explores what would happen if Superman turned out to be less of a superhero and more of a murderous space monster. Which, if we’re honest, is probably how that would actually play out.

Here’s Sony’s official synopsis:

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? In this horrific take on the classic superhero trope, a couple (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) adopts a baby who came from the stars. While they attempt to raise the boy (Jackson A. Dunn) to use his powers for good, an evil begins to grow inside that he unleashes.

Brightburn is scheduled for release in the US on May 24, 2019. No Australian release date is as yet confirmed.
