Here’s Your First Look At Aussie Brenton Thwaites As Super Sidekick Robin

You may or may not be suffering from small screen superhero fatigue at this point, but if not, there’s a brand new series coming your way next year based on DC‘s Teen Titans team, and it stars Australia’s own Brenton Thwaites as Robin.

Titans is set to debut in 2018 in the US, on a still-to-be-determined Warner Bros streaming platform. It features Thwaites as Dick Grayson, aka the original Robin, and earlier today, the network released an image of him in costume. You can go ahead and feast your eyes below:

The look is actually pretty badass, and look, it’s giving me a very slight Batman & Robin: A XXX Parody kind of a vibe (probably because of the cane), but I mean, I’m pretty okay with that.

Dick Grayson was adopted by Batman after his parents were murdered, and they worked together for a while before he dropped the Robin moniker and struck out on his own as Nightwing.

It had previously been assumed that Thwaites would play Nightwing in the show, and he might still; at some point. DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns said of the casting:

“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”

The show will also feature Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Anna Diop as StarfireMinka Kelly as Dove and Alan Ritchson as Hawk. Per the official synopsis:

“Titans is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.”

Greg Berlanti, whose resume includes Dawson’s Creek and Riverdale, is one of the producers attached to the series, along with Akiva Goldsman and Sarah Schechter.

Brenton Thwaites got his start on Australian TV in Slide and Home And Away, before moving on to a film career in the US, where he has appeared in the likes of Maleficent, The Giver and the fifth Pirates Of The Caribbean film.
