Marvel Finally Confirms A ‘Black Panther’ Sequel (And Beyond) Is Happening

Black Panther has gone ahead and broken US $1 billion at the box office, and has inspired roughly as many appreciative reviews, tweets, and utterances of the phrase “shit, that was really good.” For those reasons alone, it was pretty obvious Marvel Studios would choose to tack on a sequel – and head honcho Kevin Feige has now confirmed that’s exactly what they’re gonna do.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly for their blockbuster Marvel special, the bloke said “we absolutely will do” a follow-up to Black Panther, and hinted that his crew have already speculated how that one could pan out.

“One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two,” Feige said.

“There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”

Spitballing, Feige downplayed a T’Challa origin story, instead voicing his interest in his forefathers and close accomplices.

“I think Shuri’s astounding, and you’ll see much more of her in our universe,” Feige said.Okoye, I think I’d watch three action films just Okoye. I’m not saying we’re doing that, but I’m saying that we’re intrigued by them.”

But fans won’t have to wait until the next massive wave of Marvel films to catch the T’Challa in action. Speaking on the rapidly approaching Avengers: Infinity War, Feige said the realm of Wakanda will play a vital role – especially since some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s other locales have been, well, exploded.

Feige said the third act of Infinity War will be set in Wakanda – and trailers bear that out – largely because the saga needs a new “anchor point” due to the absence of Asgard.

Avengers: Infinity War will roll around on April 25.
