Deadline reports that the rom-com will center around two blokes who try to work through their phobia of commitment in order to make their relationship work.

The comic took to social media to share the exciting news after it hit the press, writing:

“Excited, terrified, completely in shock and PROUD as hell to announce this movie. We’re making a big, new romantic comedy for Universal!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!”

When a fan pointed out that having “a romantic comedy about gay men by a MAJOR studio written by and starring a gay man” is a huge deal, Billy responded:

Well I hate when people say “my heart is full” but my heart is fucking full. Don’t worry, it won’t last.

Eichner has two Disney flicks coming up including Jon Favreau’s The Lion King where he will lend his voice to the character of Timon and also Noelle opposite Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader, and Shirley MacLaine. He recently starred in the FX horror anthology American Horror Story‘s latest season, Apocalypse.

Eichner is a three-time Emmy nominee for his critically acclaimed series, Billy on the Street, including a Primetime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

The announcement comes after it was revealed that Apatow is directing an untitled comedy vehicle around Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson which begins production later this year for a June 19, 2020 release date.
