Your New Favourite Show ‘Big Little Lies’ Is Returning For A Second Season

HBO‘s Big Little Lies arrived earlier this year with all the high-brow drama and intrigue we could handle, and we’re positively thrilled to report that, after several months of speculation, the show has officially been given the green light for a second season.

Andrea Arnold, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed American Honey, has been tapped to direct all seven episodes of the second season, while David E Kelly will return as scriptwriter, based on a plot partially conceived by Liane Moriarty, who wrote the original novel.

In an official statement via HBO, producer and star Reese Witherspoon said:

“I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists. It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them. I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”

Nicole Kidman, who is also confirmed to star, added:

“What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.”

At this point, Witherspoon and Kidman are the only names confirmed to be returning to the Big Little Lies cast, however, HBO notes that salary negotiations are underway for some of the remaining stars, so we can probably expect to hear more about that soon.

The network has not yet confirmed when the show will return, although in other HBO-related news, Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner recently let slip that the final season of that show won’t air until 2019, so we hope you’re feeling patient.
