Pour A White Russian, Because The ‘Big Lebowski’ Sequel Finally Has A Name & Release Date

the jesus rolls big lebowski john turturro sequel spinoff

Ready yourself, disciples of the Dude, ‘cos the sequel to the Coen brothers’ immortal 1998 work of genius, The Big Lebowski, finally has a release date.

I guess calling it a sequel might be a little generous. Titled The Jesus Rolls (formerly ‘Going Places‘) and directed, written by and starring Lebowski highlight John Turturro, the film is more of a spinoff. It follows Turturro’s Jesus Quintana – you know, the purple-clad, frantically ball-polishing, be-ringed Spanish bowling savant of the original film – along with a stacked cast including Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou (that’s fucking Amelie omg!!), Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon and Pete Davidson.

The films official synopsis states that it’s about:

a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.

Hell. Yes.

Turturro has said that The Jesus Rolls, which was filmed back in 2016, is actually about how girls rule and boys drool:

It’s a bit of a racy movie. It shows how stupid men are. That’s what the movie is kinda about – the women are the stronger, more together characters. I had to tweak it a little bit but now I feel really good about it. It’s basically an exploration of Jesus getting out of jail. It’s a comedy but a very human comedy.

The film will also address those rumours, first heard in The Big Lebowski, about Jesus Quintana’s supposed sex crimes (hint: he was FRAMED). No word as yet on whether the Dude himself will make an appearance, but even without Jeff Bridges this thing sounds like a winner.

The Jesus Rolls is slated for release in early 2020.
