A Celebration Of The Greatest Minor Characters In Noughties Films

We always remember the heroes in films. The ones who save the day and have their faces plastered on the movie poster but behind every protagonist is an under-appreciated side kick who needs to be honoured.

Here, we’ve selected some of the greatest minor characters from noughties flicks who deserve some recognition via local streaming giant Stan.

The Chad (Charlie’s Angels)

He cooks breakfast for his girlfriend, he lives in a house boat and he isn’t afraid dive into the water in his pyjamas. Ladies and gentlemen, The Chad (Tom Green) is the real MVP.

Sure, he’s got certain quirks that Dylan (Drew Barrymore) finds unappealing, but let’s not forget who provided the mode of transport that helped the Angels save the day: The Chad.

Wet, dry, whatever. The Chad deserves nothing but our respect.

Miss Darbas (High School Musical)

Although she comes off as a bit of a dragon lady at times, Miss Darbas (Alyson Reed) was the hero of the entire High School Musical franchise and here’s why.

After miraculously reuniting at East High School following their snowy New Year’s Eve rendezvous, Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) decide to audition for the musical but Miss Darbas, being a stickler for rules and punctuality, tells them they’re too late and turns them away.

A bitchy move, I know, but she lets down her steely wall after hearing the pair jam together and agrees to cast them as the leads in the musical, thus setting the course for the next three films and essentially setting them up for life.

Nothing but respect for OUR queen of the fine arts.

Marisa’s maid friends (Maid In Manhattan)

While Marisa (Jennifer Lopez) is slogging away as an underpaid and under-appreciated maid, the only thing that gets her through the day is her merry band of maid buddies (aside from her son played by bb Tyler Posey, of course).

Then when Marisa’s on the verge of becoming manager, rather than feeling envious of their friend, the girls support her and encourage her to go for it, even when she’s doubting herself.

Special shoutout to the ‘I’m Coming Out’ dance number.

Grandma Annie (The Proposal)

Every role that Betty White has ever played deserves praise and recognition but this one in particular was something special.

White portrays Grandma Annie, Ryan Reynolds’ character’s nan who is super supportive of his union to Sandra Bullock’s character, even before the pair were into each other.

Not only that but she literally faked a heart attack at the end of the film to inspire them to go stay together.

Miss Rhode Island (Miss Congeniality)

Going from straight-shooting glamour hater to pageant queen was a huge undertaking for Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) and while the other girls were less than kind to the law enforcement officer, Miss Rhode Island (Heather Burns) had her back and made her feel welcome.

The sweet as pie animal rights activist ultimately takes out the crown of Miss United States and when it’s discovered that said crown is rigged with explosives, your girl still manages to survive. What a boss.

She is also extremely deserving of our props for delivering one of the greatest pieces of dialogue to come from noughties cinema:
