In another win for bloody legend Awkwafina, the actor and rapper is in final negotiations to star in the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, the sequel will see the return of Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, there’s no official word on who Awkwafina’s playing just yet but it’s apparently a major role.

The plot is also still under lock and key but if the reboot’s anything to go by, I’m sure it’ll do mighty fine at the box office as well. Per Box Office MojoJumanji: Welcome To The Jungle made a cool USD $962 million worldwide.

Awkwafina, real name Nora Lum, already made a name for herself prior to the global explosion that was Crazy Rich Asians but the flick really did catapult her into the headlines. Following her fan-favourite performance in CRA, Awkwafina went on to host Saturday Night Live, becoming the second Asian-American woman to take to the stage after Lucy Liu.

Not to mention, the actor is getting her very own show on Comedy Central.

Awkwafina will be teaming up with SMILFKarey Dornetto and Family Guy‘s Teresa Hsiao.

The self-titled series will be loosely based on the actor’s life. In it, she’ll play a twenty-something-year-old “striving for a larger-than-life existence”.

BD Wong, the voice of Shang from Mulan, stars as Awkwafina’s on-screen dad and Orange Is The New Black‘s Lori Tan Chinn will play her grandmother.

Bowen Yang will star as Awkwafina’s more successful cousin, because we all have one of those.

“I’ve been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today,” Awkwafina told Comedy Central at the time. “I am so honoured to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian American girl against the backdrop of the city I was raised.”
